We are not separate from nature
Ecological, cultural, and social health are interdependent. Understanding place must precede action. Connection creates care, and care creates the will to act.
Every person, organization, community, and place exists within larger nested systems. Actions within one system should strengthen the vitality of the systems within and around it. Local actions should generate benefits that extend beyond their immediate boundaries.
Our work should increase the capacity of people and communities to understand, care for, and regenerate their places. Decisions made today should expand the possibilities available to future generations.
Communities and cultural traditions can restore the energy people need to participate in the care of their place. Every person has a meaningful role, but no person has unlimited agency, energy, or responsibility. Participation should recognize people’s different capacities and provide meaningful ways for each person to contribute.
